Each yearly program culminates in a international colloquium, held in May. The ISITA colloquia are 3-4 days in duration, and involve scholars from the US, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.   By bringing together scholars who work in a range of disciplines, represent a wide variety of academic cultures, and specialize in different regions of Islamic Africa, ISITA's colloquia offer a basis for the kind of scholarly community, debate, and cooperation which make intellectual progress on the study of Islamic thought in Africa possible.
